The Housing Council is a 501 (c)(3) corporation founded in 1971 to advocate for the development of housing opportunities for low and moderate-income persons residing in Monroe County, N.Y. The corporation provides housing counseling mainly focusing on home ownership, prepurchase counseling, home equity conversion mortgage (HECM), mortgage default resolution, tenant and landlord issues, mobility counseling and fair housing education and outreach. The Housing Council incorporates information on budgeting and life skills counseling, financial literacy and the availability of the variety of housing opportunities in Monroe County, including home ownership.
