Organized in 1841 by sixteen men and women, Houston's First Baptist Church is a relevant biblical community that offers a range of worship services. The church features a library and a bookstore. It provides diagnostic assessment and consultation solutions. It operates the Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center, which offers biblically-based, clinically competent and Spirit-sensitive counseling that promotes the emotional, psychological and spiritual health of individuals, marriages, and families. Houston's First Baptist Church conducts classes and seminars on a variety of topics, such as addictive behaviors, marriage and family enrichment, money management, parenting issues, separation and divorce, spiritual concerns, and vocational and educational choices. Its schools serve students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
