The Human Rights Campaign, established in 1980, is a nonprofit civil rights organization that works to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality throughout the United States. Its areas of operation include advocacy, research and outreach programs. The organization assists members in drafting and sending of proposals, legal issues, and state and local laws issues related to equality. It also organizes seminars and undertakes educational programs on various issues, such as relationship recognition, workplace and family and health issues. The organization provides scholarship, internship and career opportunities to transgender youth. The Human Rights Campaign has more than 60,000 members and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
