Founded in 1957, Independent Electrical Contractors is a trade association for merit shop electrical and systems contractors. It has more than 3,700 member companies throughout the United States. The association maintains a workforce development committee that promotes the electrical industry to schools, parents, teachers and counselors. Independent Electrical Contractors operates a university that provides classes in profitability strategies, estimating techniques, business management, and planning and scheduling. The association s partners include Greenlee Textron, Mister Sparky, ConEst Software Systems, CLP Resources and Orion Energy Systems. Independent Electrical Contractors also works in collaboration with various federal agencies. It maintains a foundation that promotes and supports educational opportunities in the electrical and communications industry.
