The Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has been offering services in the areas of toxicology and environmental health since its inception in 1986. It conducts characterization of cellular, biochemical and molecular mechanisms by which environmental agents cause toxicity and initiate diseases. The institute is staffed with professors, associates and administrative personnel. The Institute of Environmental Health Sciences offers a graduate program in molecular and cellular toxicology. In addition, its academic curriculum includes protein structure and function study, epidemiology, cytogenetics, fundamentals of immunology and dissertation research. The institute has an on-site laboratory, instrument room and computer laboratory. It also has spectrophotometers, electrophoresis equipment, thermocyclers, microscopes, microarray scanners and bioanalyzers. The Institute of Environmental Health Sciences is located in Detroit.
