Our founder Iranganie Weerasuria has been in early childhood education since 1961. She is an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) qualified directress who has observed and taught all over the world. Mrs. Weerasuria has developed her effective curriculum from her extensive experience and education.
In 1965, Father McLesh and University of Texas Professor Jim Steinstrager recruited Mrs. Weerasuria to bring the Montessori philosophy to the United States. She taught in the first AMI accredited school owned by Mrs. Gail King.
In 1971 Mrs. Weerasuria opened the first International Montessori House of Children with the assistance of Austin city councilman St. Sky Johnson. In 1977, when the school grew to 70 students, she decided to open a second location in North Austin.
