Tourists can step back into the old West at the Irma Hotel, a place that Buffalo Bill Cody called a gem. The Cody, Wyo., hotel was the scene of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show try-outs at a time when buffalo ran amok in downtown Cody. Buffalo Bill helped found the city in 1895 and built the hotel in 1902. Visitors can still stay in its renovated rooms, including the private suite that served as Buffalo Bill s office, and enjoy the Buffalo Bill Bar or the Silver Saddle Lounge. The Irma Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service in recognition of its contribution to the cultural foundations of America. It had additions constructed in 1929 and 1976, but still features the famous cherrywood bar that dates back to the period of construction and is one of the most photographed features in all of Cody.
