Robert Peterson opened the first Jack in the Box restaurant in San Diego in 1951. Jack in the Box, with its distinctive clown head logo, has since grown to more than 2,100 fast-food restaurants in over 15 states throughout the western United States. The quick-serve hamburger chain features drive-thru service and indoor dining areas. The chain offers a selection of hamburgers and specialty sandwiches, such as the Jumbo Jack and Sourdough Bacon Burger, as well as salads and shakes. Jack in the Box is known for its award-winning and humorous television commercials, starting with five-year-old Rodney Allen Rippy in the 1970s, and continuing with a spokesman wearing the huge white clown s head company logo. Jack in the Box operates and franchises restaurants through its wholly owned subsidiary, Qdoba Mexican Grill. In addition, it operates more than 50 Quick Stuff proprietary convenience stores that include fuel islands and Jack in the Box outlets. The restaurant maintains a presence in Fort Worth, Texas.
