The Department of Anesthesiology, a part of Jefferson Medical College, provides residential training and academic programs to medical students throughout Pennsylvania. It provides anesthesia care for various surgical and invasive procedures, and chronic and acute pain management services. It also undertakes clinical trials and research initiatives on various topics, such as control of carbohydrate metabolism, improved techniques of pain management, malignant hyperthermia syndrome and the effects of anesthetics on vascular smooth muscle function.
