Founded in 1773, the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is one of five member institutions in the Johns Hopkins Health System. The medical center provides a variety of services for the community, including a trauma center and neonatal intensive care unit that are part of the statewide system, a regional burn center and a national geriatrics center. Located in southeast Baltimore, most of the physicians are full-time faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Students from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing also come to the Medical Center for hospital-based instruction in acute and long-term care. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is a privately owned company that employs nearly 4,000 people.
