Social Security Disability Social Security administers two cash benefits programs available to disabled individuals: 1) Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), and 2) Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Eligibility for SSDI is based on a disabled worker’s accumulated work credits, irrelevant of financial need. SSI, on the other hand, is only available to people with less than $2,000 in assets if single and $3,000 in assets if married. Individuals who have not accumulated enough work credits for SSDI may still be eligible for SSI if their assets do not exceed the allowable limit. Social Security has its own strict criteria for defining disability. To qualify for benefits, the SSA must find you disabled and unable to work because of your severe medical or psychological impairments. Benefit amounts vary from person to person and from program to program. Have you been denied Social Security Disability Benefits? The application process can be overwhelming and confusing.
