Founded in 1982, the Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority is a public company that is organized under the Housing Authorities Law of the State of Washington. The authority creates a variety of housing opportunities. It administers various federal housing programs and the Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments Program. The Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority also manages a federally funded Self-Help Housing Program of the Rural Housing and Community Development Services (RHCDS). The program allows income eligible applicants an opportunity to own their home by participating in groups of 8 to 12 to build each others homes. Since 1973, the program has completed more than 1,100 homes.
