The Utah Labor Commission works under the government of Salt Lake City. It operates various divisions that include administrative, adjudication, antidiscrimination and labor divisions. The commission maintains an occupational safety and health division that provides assistance with safety and health in the workplace. The Utah Labor Commission also has an industrial accidents division that monitors various businesses in Utah to ensure that they comply with the state requirement that they provide workers' compensation insurance and investigates businesses that do not provide the insurance. The division also assists injured workers' in resolving disputes regarding their workers' compensation benefits with employers insurance carriers. The Utah Labor Commission additionally operates an office of coal mine safety that prevents accidents and responds to emergency situations.
