Dr. Lawing provides a variety of psychological services to the greater New Orleans area, including forensic evaluations, psychological testing, psychotherapy, and consultation. Forensic Psychology. Dr. Lawing offers forensic psychology services for a variety of legal matters. Dr. Lawing's goal as an expert witness is to deliver accurate and precise information to the decision makers in the courtroom regarding psychologically based questions. Forensic evaluations can include competency, insanity, sentencing (mitigating/aggravating factors), and personal injury matters. Following a forensic psychological evaluation, she can prepare reports and/or offer testimony in civil and criminal cases.
Psychological Testing
Psychological testing is helpful for diagnosing various mental health problems, providing a framework for therapy, and highlighting individual strengths and weaknesses. Dr. Lawing utilizes the most current psychological measures to test various issues, including but not limited to, ADHD, intelligence, autism, behavioral issues, mood and/or anxiety problems, academic problems or learning disabilities, and personality issues. Following psychological testing, Dr. Lawing furnishes a report and conducts a feedback session with the individual.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy can be invaluable in helping individuals live healthier and happier lives. There are many different reasons why people may seek out therapy, however, the underlying goal of therapy is to effect positive change in a persons’ behaviors, emotions, and/or thoughts. Psychotherapy requires active participation by both the therapist and the client.
Dr. Lawing works in individual and family therapy settings. She primarily utilizes cognitive behavioral and mindfulness techniques to help clients develop more productive and healthier ways of thinking and behaving. She conducts psychotherapy for a broad range of clients, including children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Lawing has provided services in correctional, outpatient clinic, and private practice settings. She has worked with individuals experiencing a wide variety of psychological problems including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, issues with gender or sexuality, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, childhood behavioral issues, family conflict, grief, and trauma.
