Jefferson Pilot Financial's beginning lies with two North Carolina insurance companies, Jefferson Standard, founded in 1907, and Pilot Life, founded in 1903. The two companies merged to form Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Company in January 1987 and changed its name to Jefferson-Pilot Financial Insurance in 1994.
