Mears Middle School serves more than 1,060 students in grades seven and eight. Its educational programs include instruction in science, language arts, social studies and mathematics. The school also offers foreign language classes in Spanish and Japanese. Mears Middle School provides special education programs for gifted and talented students. In addition, it offers elective subjects, such as business technology, family consumer science and exploratory art. The school provides the English Language Learners program and music and physical education classes. Its athletic activities include volleyball, wrestling and cross-country. The school administers a parent-teacher-student association that offers support services and sponsors school events. Mears Middle School is governed by the Anchorage School District.
