The Memphis Housing Authority, a commissioned agency governed by the city council of Memphis, Tenn., provides safe and sanitary dwellings to persons of low income at affordable rental rates. Its residential unites include College Park, Alabama Plaza, Paul Borda Towers and Hurt Village. It operates more than 10 departments and programs with a staff of appointed managers. The Memphis Housing Authority is organized into purchasing and contracting, legal, internal audit, records management, development, capital improvements, and planning and analysis operations. Its HOPE VI Program helps residents become self sufficient by providing them with numerous services, such as case management, homeownership counseling, and employment and training. It also operates the Housing Choice Voucher Program throughout Shelby County.
