Established in 1963, Merritt Academy serves educational needs of more than 360 students in prekindergaten through eight grades. The academy has a more than seven-acre campus that includes a pool, gymnasium and sports field. The academy s curriculum includes classes in English, art, computer science and math. Its language department offers classes in Spanish and French. Merritt Academy s science department provides classes in biology, physical science, chemistry and physics. It has a cafeteria that offers various lunch and snacks items for students. Additionally, the academy has a computer lab, library and art room. Its sports program includes cross country, football, soccer, volleyball tennis, swimming, baseball and softball. Merritt Academy is operated by the Sunrise Senior Living Education Foundation and is approved by the Virginia Independent Schools Association.
