Dallas Metrocare MHMR Services, established in 1968, is a community mental health mental retardation center that serves the residents of Dallas County, Texas. It provides services to more than 18,000 individuals annually. The organization is divided into two divisions: Mental Health Services and Mental Retardation Services. The Mental Health Services division provides mental health treatment, rehabilitation and support services to adults and children with mental illness, particularly those with severe and persistent mental illnesses. There are five outpatient clinics for the development of individualized treatment plans for each client. Child and adolescent services include programs in homes, schools and day care centers. The Mental Retardation Services division has been accredited by The Council, a national accrediting body for services for people with developmental disabilities. The division provides services for people with mental retardation, including service coordination, vocational services and supported employment, residential services and individualized supports for independent living in the community.
