Founded in 1938, Milwaukee Center for Independence is a nonprofit community-based rehabilitation facility. It provides services to individuals with disabilities and disadvantages. The center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. It provides services, such as adult programs, therapies, children s programs, training, and employment and community behavioral health services. Its adult programs include diagnostic assessments, life skills training and assisting older adults with everyday living needs, meals, transportation, routine housekeeping and chores. The center s training services provide work experience and occupational skills instructions that develops basic competencies in assembly and packaging, forklift certification, food service, custodial service, computer skills and housekeeping. Located in Milwaukee, the center also offers a fiscal agent service that helps in processing payroll and timecards, issuing checks, making timely tax deposits and submitting tax reports.
