Founded in 1984, Mecklenburg Open Door is a nonprofit community agency. It operates more than four group homes, over three apartment facilities and nearly 15 condominiums that serve adults with mental illness in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Its habitat facilities are affiliated with the Mental Health Association of North Carolina and Mental Health Association of Central Carolinas. The agency provides medication management and personal care services, such as meal planning, cooking and housekeeping. Mecklenburg Open Door also offers various administrative services for Shelter Plus Care, which is a rental assistance program for people with disabilities. It additionally provides full-time benefit packages with retirement, vacation, medical, dental and life insurance. The agency has a supported employment division that is one of the largest providers of employment services in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Mecklenburg Open Door maintains a location in Charlotte, N.C.
