Morningstar Treatment Services is a nonprofit agency that operates a residence exclusively for mentally retarded and severely, emotionally disturbed children. A specialized treatment center in Brunswick, Ga., it addresses the educational, physical-psychological, spiritual and social needs of the children it serves. The 350-acre campus, located on Highway 99 in north Glynn County, originally opened in 1946 as Boys' Estate, a home for underprivileged boys. In 1996, it was renamed Morningstar Baptist Treatment Services and later Morningstar Treatment Services to broaden its relationships. Its staff and support base are ecumenical. The children living there come from all over Georgia because the facility contracts with several state agencies. The residents are children between the ages of 7-17 who live and receive treatment at the campus for 18-24 months. Morningstar s goal is return the children to their communities. The campus serves more than 50 children.
