The Museum of the Confederacy features a collection of civilian and military Civil War artifacts that are related to the Confederate States of America. Founded in 1980, it maintains reference materials on the Lost Cause era. The museum organizes and sponsors a variety of lectures, events and programs on topics related to the exploration of American society in the 1800s. It also offers an annual journal and semiannual newsletter. The Museum of the Confederacy houses one of the largest and comprehensive collections of Confederate artifacts in the world. It also maintains a library and museum shop, as well as offers online services. The museum provides Living History and Girls Scouts programs. It showcases personal belongings of various legendary Confederate generals and common soldiers.
