Mylestones Pediatric Therapy, P.L.L.C. offers Speech and Language Therapy and Occupation Therapy services, focused on (but not limited to) children, ages zero to seven years, who demonstrate a developmental delay or deficiency that prevents them from meeting typical milestones. Additionally, we provide rehabilitative services for minors who have suffered an acute neurological or biomechanical incident that requires intervention.
Co-owners, Albert Cavazos, BS, OTR and Wendy Stengel, MA, CCC/SLP will conduct respective occupational and speech-language evaluations, as well as direct, hands-on therapy for children of the local community who need extra support to reach their optimal potential, regardless of labels or diagnoses.
Albert Cavazos, OTR, specializes in evaluation and treatment of symptoms related to Attention Deficit and Hyper-activity Disorder (ADHD), disorders of impaired coordination (dyspraxia), visual-motor and visual processing disorders, and sensory integration disorders, such as Pervasive Developmental Delay (PDD), Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD), and Autistic spectrum disorders. Albert also provides Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training, assessment and training for adaptive aides, equipment, and social skills training. He also provides in-home assessments for safety and achieving optimal independence for both children and adults. Grab-bar installation consultation and installation is also available.
Wendy Stengel, MA, CCC/SLP specializes in early language acquisition, using a total communication approach, including such modalities as American Sign Language, the Picture Exchange Communication System, and high-tech communication devices, when appropriate. Additionally, she provides consultation on nutrition that optimizes overall neurological function, as it relates to therapy.
In both areas of practice, Albert and Wendy work with family members and caregivers to provide education and support to integrate new skills the child acquires in therapy back into their natural environments. They consult and collaborate with other professionals, including physicians, nurses, educators, other therapists, psychologists, and behavior therapists.
Both Ms. Stengelâ&euro&trades and Mr. Cavazosâ&euro&trades experience has been primarily in the San Antonio community, both having worked at various local clinic and home-health agencies and providing contract services for the HEAD START / Parent-Child Incorporated program. Additionally, Ms. Stengel has worked in local school districts and is versed in the requirements of Individualized Education Plans, Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committees and public school special education procedures. Ms. Stengel and Mr. Cavazos have over ten years of experience as clinicians and leaders in the San Antonio community. Both are very driven and are highly committed to ongoing education, keeping up with trends, and providing the highest quality evidenced-based practice.
