The National Guard Association of the United States is a nonpartisan organization that represents current and former Army and Air National Guard officers. It was formed in 1878 with the goal of obtaining better equipment, standardized training and a more combat-ready force by petitioning Congress for resources. Its current goal is to maintain freedom and security by guaranteeing a strong defense through the provision of a vital and dynamic National Guard as a part of the total military force. The association strives to help control the nation s law enforcement agencies within the capabilities of available resources in consistency with federal and state mission requirements. It hopes to attract and retain a high-quality force through improvements in personnel management and equity in personnel benefits and entitlement programs. The National Guard Association of the United States is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
