Champion was founded in 1989 as National Raceline, Inc to provide racehorse owners, breeders and racing enthusiasts with a near real time method of obtaining race results from tracks across the nation. Callers have a choice, in most cases of hearing, in addition to the results, the full race or the actual stretch calls of the races in which they have interest. This form of sports information naturally evolved into a second information product, the "National Sports Line, " which was continually updated and gave "up-to-the-minute" national and international results and news of US sports. From the modest beginning, Champion joint ventured their programs with such media industry giants as USA Today ( and parent company Gannet Publishing ), Tribune Media, Fox Network, News America, The Weather Channel and official lottery number for eight state lotteries, etc..Champion then expanded it's horizons and became a service bureau for other companies, both entrepreneurial and Fortune 500, completing and providing programs for clients such as the State of New York, OTB, Yahoo, Telemundo, Carolina Power & Light, New York Racing Association, CITGO, Pennzoil, McDonalds, National Parkinson Foundation, Paralyzed Veterans of America, California Department of Justice, Branch Bank and Trust, etc. Consequently, in a little over four years, Champion Communications became and remains to this day the largest information service bureau and "900" provider in the United States.
