Located in Tucson, Ariz., the National Solar Observatory is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. It has two types of telescopes, such as Dunn and McMath-Pierce solar telescope. Its Dunn solar telescope is used for high-resolution solar physics. McMath-Pierce solar telescope is capable of panchromatic and flux-limiting studies of the sun. It additionally provides various classroom research activities, such as data and activities for solar learning. Its global oscillation network group studies the internal structure and dynamics of the sun by means of helioseismology. Its projects include advanced technology solar telescope, synoptic optical long-term investigations of the sun, virtual solar observatory, optical solar patrol network and solar mass ejection imager. The National Solar Observatory has two observing facility locations in Kitt Peak, Ariz., and Sacramento Peak, N.M.
