The National Transportation Safety Board is an independent, federal agency that is responsible for the investigation of civil aviation accidents in the United States. It also issues safety recommendations for preventing future railroad, highway, marine and aircraft accidents. The National Transportation Safety Board operates an acquisition division that manages and provides contracting and procurement information. The agency s office of transportation disaster assistance coordinates public and private responsibilities in the wake of transportation disasters for various modes of transportation. In addition, it prepares preliminary and probable cause reports. The National Transportation Safety Board is a member of the International Transportation Safety Association (ITSA).
