The Eating Disorders Treatment Program at Mercy Hospital believes that individuals experiencing problems in their lives related to eating-disordered behavior deserve timely, compassionate, and skilled care in a safe environment. We will actively engage clients in treatment utilizing specialized clinicians and resources to effectively address a broad range of patient needs. Physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual needs are assessed and individualized treatment plans are developed and implemented for all patients. We offer a range of treatment settings to best match the intensity of care required to meet patient needs. Our treatment prospective is holistic, and treatment practices recognize the complex nature of eating disorders. Staffed by experienced nurses, therapists, nutritionists and physicians, the New England Eating Disorders Program offers a unique balance of treatment services to meet the needs of our clients. Mercy offers the only comprehensive eating disorders program in Maine. Our program was recently highlighted in Anthem's Network Update: "We're spotlighting a regional treatment program for eating disorders which we believe is a good example of an evidence-based, cost-effective approach to this complicated and challenging condition. When we find a local provider that offers what we consider to be state-of-the-art treatment right in our proverbial back yard, we want to share it with our network clinicians," wrote Steven Korn, MD, Anthem Behavioral Health Medical Director, Northeast Region. The New England Eating Disorders Program has been accepted for inclusion in The Joint Commission Leading Practice Library. Organizations submit practices to The Joint Commission that they have found to be "leading practices," with permission to share them with other organizations.
