The New York Public Library is a private, nonprofit corporation that operates on private as well as public financing. The library provides free information access services to more than 15 million people. Its research libraries include the Humanities and Social Sciences Library, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and the Science, Industry and Business Library. The New York Public Library s branch system includes over 85 libraries with collections totaling nearly 7 million items. It offers photographic and digital reproduction, copying, printing, and document and research services. The library features books in the areas of arts, humanities, business, children resources, education, employment, government, law, health, history and social sciences. It also offers study material on book trade, performing arts, reference, science and technology.
