Founded in 1983, the Northwest Fire/Rescue District is a full-service organization that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the residents of the northwestern metropolitan Tucson area in Arizona. The district provides community services to more than 14,000 residents and over 1,900 commercial occupancies and covers an area of nearly 140 square miles. It is a nonprofit, community service organization that administers several drowning and brush fire prevention programs. The district operates approximately five fire stations and works with a team of more than 190 staff members. Its training division administers educational programs that prevent occupational accidents, injuries, illnesses and deaths. The Northwest Fire/Rescue District responds to incidents in California, Idaho, Montana, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
