As a part of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Oakwood Correctional Facility was founded in 1994 and manages more than 145 inmates and over 250 staff members. It is spread over an area of nearly 15 acres. The facility offers several apprenticeship programs, as well as works for the development of skills for growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The items that the inmates produce and prepare are donated to food banks, shelters and homeless individuals. Oakwood Correctional Facility provides a community service program, as well as vocational education in the areas of boiler operation, horticulture, landscape management, electrical appliance repair, painting, building maintenance, plumbing and janitorial works. It provides Adult Basic Education and GED preparation programs, as well as religious services. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction operates approximately 30 facilities and serves more than 45,000 children annually.
