The Orange County Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement services, promotes public safety and protects the rights and property of residents in 12 cities in Orange County, Calif. The special investigation division is designed to deter, investigate, and suppress all violations of law relating to narcotics substance abuse, suppression of street gangs and vice activities. The division is divided into three separate components, vice and narcotics, gang enforcement and regional narcotics suppression. The forensic science services division provides all police agencies in the county with services for the recognition, collection and evaluation of physical evidences from crimes. Additionally, the Orange County Sheriff's Department provides transit police services for the Orange County Transit Authority, security at the John Wayne Airport and the police services at Orange County Fairgrounds.
