The Department of Orthopedic Surgery, a part of SUNY Upstate Medical University, specializes in the prevention and treatment of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The department specializes in trauma management, sports medicine, and pediatric and general orthopedics. It also provides spine, joint reconstructive, and foot and ankle surgery services. The Department of Orthopedic Surgery has expertise in orthopedic oncology and hand and upper extremity surgeries. It research division, the Musculo-Skeletal Science Research Center, coordinates a variety of research activities in joint replacement, prosthetics, osteoporosis, fracture fixation and extremity biomechanics.
