*Young children from birth through adolescence, have specific health care needs that differ from those of adults. Many Family Practice and General Practitioners diagnose and treat young children as part of their practice. Pediatricians limit their practice to children from birth to 18 years of age.
*In addition to the clinical treatment of illness and injury in young children, pediatricians provide referrals to other medical specialists. And, because children's welfare is dependent on t heir home and family situation, pediatricians also offer families support in their effort to create a nurturing environment. This support includes education about healthful living, developmental and emotional needs of children and prevention of injury.
