The Personnel Department works under the government of Springfield, Ill. It maintains a uniform classification plan for positions under the Employment Code and maintains lists of applicants. The department also makes appointments, maintains a grievance procedure and monitors employee benefits. The Personnel Department coordinates special projects, such as summer internship and yearlong fellowship programs. It supports the Americans with Disabilities Act that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities related to job application procedures, job training, and hiring, advancement and discharge of employees. The department is responsible for overall development and administration of the equal employment opportunity and affirmative action program. The Personnel Department offers vacancies for full- and part-time, intermittent and student worker positions.
