Founded in 1903, Pewabic Pottery is a nonprofit ceramic design studio, education center and National Historic Landmark catering to local, nationwide and international visitors. Based in Detroit, Mich., it is a multifaceted institution offering education, exhibition and design/fabrication programs. It is engaged in the fabrication of heirloom quality architectural tiles for public and private installations, gift and commemorative tiles, vessels, garden ware, ornaments and both reproductions and adaptations of its historic designs. It offers classes, workshops, lectures, internships and residency programs for studio potters and other artists. In addition, it offers outreach programs, workshops, summer apprenticeships, classes for gifted and talented students from preschool through high school. The institution's installations can be found in churches, schools, commercial buildings and public facilities.
