Established in 1990, Phoenix Alternatives is a nonprofit organization that offers a range of vocational services for adults with developmental disabilities. Its vocational programs include instruction in gardening and work skills development, interactive reading, creative cooking, and music and movement. The organization provides opportunities for individuals to participate in recreational and leisure activities through the development of hobbies and volunteering in the community. Phoenix Alternatives collaborates with the business community, schools and recreational resources and works to enhance job opportunities. It also participates with secondary schools to provide a smooth transition from schools to adult services. Phoenix Alternatives maintains a location in White Bear Lake, Minn.
