Established in 1957, the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System provides a range of before- and after-retirement benefit plans for the state employees. It offers services to the county, municipal, public school, nonteaching public school, and college and university employees. The system provides early retirement, disability, survivor, and age and service benefit plans. It coordinates the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP), which allows employees to retire and begin accumulating retirement benefits without terminating their employment. The system additionally offers Partial Annuity Withdrawal, which is a retirement option that allows a member to take a distribution of up to 60 months of retirement benefits. It provides employer guidance, training and assistance services. The system also offers membership and reconciliation options, as well as conducts several seminars for its members. The Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System publishes various brochures, handbooks and newsletters for active and retired members.
