Founded in 1974, the Rape Crisis Center merged with Vera House, which provides a range of domestic violence services, including outreach and advocacy. Founded in 1977, the center provides emergency sheltering services for men and women in crisis. It administers the Syracuse Area Domestic and Sexual Violence Coalition programs. Vera House offers 24-hour crisis & support line solutions. The center provides short-term counseling, support groups and advocacy services for the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and related crimes. It offers school-based, community and professional education programs on a variety of topics, including sexual abuse prevention and domestic violence awareness.
