Established in 1911, Milwaukee Recreation is a nonprofit department of Milwaukee Public Schools that provides a variety of recreational activities. It provides aquatic, cooperative tutorial and outdoor education programs. The department also conducts field trips and youth and adult enrichment classes. Milwaukee Recreation organizes summer recreation enrichment camps. In addition, it has playgrounds and wading pools. The department has a staff of more than 2,000 individuals. Milwaukee Recreation also has community centers and outdoor facilities. It conducts dance events and birthday parties and various sports activities, including basketball and tennis. Milwaukee Recreation also offers after-school programs.
