Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority, also known as RWSA, is an independent, public agency that provides the impoundment, treatment, storage and transmission of potable water. Its customers include the Charlottesville Public Utilities Division and the Albemarle County Service Authority. The authority maintains water supply reservoirs and plants, as well as transports and treats wastewater. Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority participates in a river monitoring program, StreamWatch. It is recognized by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The authority also maintains the Environmental Management System. It administers the Meadow Creek Interceptor Project, which features a large-diameter sewer pipe. The authority serves the residents of Albemarle County and Charlottesville in Virginia.
