Established in 1872, Roger Williams Park Zoo is a recreational facility that provides a range of entertainment and social interaction opportunities for more than 16,000 individuals and families. It operates several conservation projects for endangered animals and insects, such as the American burying beetle, butterflies, red wolf, elephant, penguins and amphibians. Roger Williams Park Zoo organizes various educational field trips and camps that focus on nature games, environmental activities, interviews, and arts and crafts for children, youths and families. It maintains after-school clubs and offers a variety of scouting opportunities for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Located in Providence, R.I., Roger Williams Park Zoo is operated and maintained by the Rhode Island Zoological Society, which secures funds for the zoo s conservation, research and educational programs.
