Ryan Shugarman, MD - Clinical & Forensic Psychiatrist

I am a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the practice of general adult and forensic psychiatry. In my clinical practice, I conduct an in-depth evaluation so as to thoroughly understand my patients and design a customized treatment plan, which may include the use of medication and/or a combination of the following therapeutic modalities: cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, trauma-focused, EMDR, exposure and response prevention, and supportive therapy. In my forensic work, I am available for consultation on both civil and criminal matters in VA, MD, DC, and PA. I am fellowship-trained and board-eligible in forensic psychiatry. Areas of particular interest include stalking risk assessment and evaluating for criminal responsibility. I am experienced in performing the following types of evaluations: assessment for competency to stand trial, fitness for duty, criminal responsibility, SSI/SSDI disability and workman's compensation, medical malpractice, violence risk assessment, and competency to make medical and financial decisions.

I am a board-certified general and forensic psychiatrist located in Old Town Alexandria.
