Safeway, located on Marina Boulevard in San Francisco, is one of more than 1,800 Safeway food and drug stores in the Western, Southwestern, Rocky Mountain and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and Western Canada. Its parent company, Safeway Incorporated, is one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States and trades publicly on the New York Stock exchange under the ticker symbol SWY. The San Francisco store has a deli, bakery, pharmacy, floral department, liquor department, produce department and digital video department. Customers can choose from more than 2,500 products, including the store s private label brands-Safeway, Lucerne and Mrs. Wright's. Safeway traces its roots to 1914 when the company was founded under the Selig name. In 1925, Selig changed its name to Safeway, and in 1926, was merged with Skaggs stores.
