Dr. Shoaf has been an orthodontist in Winston-Salem since 1992, and welcomes her old friends back and new friends into her practice. We are open for patient care Monday through Thursday, 8am 5pm. We close for lunch from 12 noon to 1pm. On Fridays, the administrative side of the office is open from 8am to 12 noon to allow you to make appointments or payments.

Conventional orthodontics with metal brackets and wires. These are recommended for most teens for their durability and rapid completion of treatment.Esthetic orthodontics with clear upper braces and metal lower braces with wires. Our adult patients will often find these a nice alternative to upper metal braces to decrease the impact of braces on their appearance during treatment.Invisalign treatment using a series of clear removable appliances to align the teeth. Dr. Shoaf was trained in the first East Coast training class for this treatment in 1999, and has extensive experience with this removable treatment. Many adults find this the hassle free way to increase their smile value.Treatment for prevention of orthodontic problems. This can include space maintenance after early loss of teeth, palatal expansion for crossbites, removal of primary or permanent teeth at certain intervals, and appliances to assist with bone positioning. Often, these early partial treatments during mixed dentition will decrease the need and length of time needed for final orthodontic alignment once all the primary teeth are gone. Crossbites in particular should be treated early in the pre-teen years, to avoid the need for later surgical correction.Treatment of patients with craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft palate, craniosynostosis, Pierre Robin syndrome, and other congenital problems, particularly in relation to surgeries and speech therapy.Sleep appliances for patients with mild sleep apnea and/or simple snoring. Our device is a simple plastic mouthpiece that moves the lower jaw forward, much like when initiating CPR to open the airway. Although simple, these devices are custom fit and are very effective in the treatment of apnea and snoring. We request that these patients have copies of their Sleep Tests sent to our office prior to the Initial Consultation, and have a referral by their physician sent or faxed to our office.Orthodontic treatment in conjunction with surgical treatment. Some malocclusions are caused by overgrowth of the facial bones and are corrected by a surgical repositioning of the bones for best alignment. Your treatment will need to be coordinated between your oral surgeon and Dr. Shoaf for best results.
