Surveying is the art & science of measurements in 3 dimensions. The surveyor is hired to retrace or set boundary / property lines for landowners. Construction contractors hire surveyors to set stakes for new development (commercial, residential, and for industry). The surveyor may also be tasked with preparing maps for many purposes including the subdivision of land and describing that land on paper called a legal description.
