Founded in 1993, Second Chance is a nonprofit organization that provides services and support for unemployment, poverty, homelessness, substance abuse and incarceration. It offers job readiness training, job placement, affordable housing, mental health counseling and case management services. The organization owns and operates nearly eight alcohol- and drug-free homes in the San Diego area where residents can be housed before they transition to permanent employment and housing. Second Chance offers the Affordable Housing Connections Program, which assists individual and families with services, such as rent readiness assessments, identification of listings for qualified renters, referrals for transitional housing and treatment facilities and networking with local property managers and landlords.
