Established in 1979, the Serendipity Center is one of the largest and oldest private, nonprofit mental health, education, and child and family support center in Portland, Ore. It is a therapeutic school for special needs students between the ages of 5 and 21. It offers programs for students suffering from difficulties, such as academic skill deficits, poor social skill development, anger and aggression problems and family issues. The school provides instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and social science, as well as social skills and self-management. The Serendipity Center offers a range of services, including case management, individual and art therapies, psychiatric consultation, medication management, and drug and alcohol education.
