Founded in 1924, John G. Shedd Aquarium is one of the leading zoos and aquariums in the United States. It offers a range of animal aquaculture services. The aquarium features Greek- and Roman-style architecture. John G. Shedd Aquarium houses more than 22,000 animals, including Asian arawana, Australian lungfish, beluga calf, bullfrog, dragon moray eel, frogfish, giant Pacific octopus, cownose rays, and blacktip reef and bonnethead sharks. It also houses Goliath bird-eating tarantula, green anaconda, moon jellies, penguins, reef-building corals, sea cucumbers, Surinam toad and Pacific white-sided dolphins. Shedd Aquarium s high school lake ecology program introduces students to Lake Michigan's aquatic and terrestrial environments. It offers a variety of animal conservation services.
